They did not favor either translation type over the other regardless of their L2 reading proficiency. They felt that the parallel passage was more difficult but they did not look up more words in one text or the other. Findings were that learners comprehended the two translations at roughly the same level. They also indicated which translation type they favored and provided reasons for their preference. A within-subjects quasi-experimental design was used to compare participants' reading performance with access to parallel and interlinear translation versions of the same text.
